    Default Missouri State Penitentiary


    My wife and I took a tour of the Missouri State Penitentiary in Jefferson City and it was very interesting. The housing blocks are somewhat intimidating to walk through especially imagining how many inmates were kept there. I got to sit in Sonny Liston's cell and hear some great stories. There are several different tours you can take. Hard to believe MSP was operating just 13 years ago, I was barely out of college. Go check it out it's really cool.

    When I was in high school our Fellowship of Christian Athletes leader also headed up a prison ministry. He would take a few of us on these visits and I had the opportunity to attend a service there in the early 1970's. Let's just say it made quite an impression.

    I missed going to Alcatraz when we were RVing in California. Couldn't help thinking it would be a memorable, if not frightening, experience.

    My dad was a guard there in the late 50's, he would take us to the gift shop they had where stuff the inmates did was for sale, leather, paintings and such, amazing how awesome some of the stuff was
