Just ordered 4 new 12 ft rods. Now I need some reels. What does everybody prefer. I was thinking about the small bait cast style just for cost savings but am up for other options also.

I caught the zebco slabseekers (spincast) reels on sale at wal-mart winter before last and have been using them ever since, they make depth control easy and seem to be tough enough last.

I use the little bait casters same as my dipping rods. I like the small profile. They seem to not get tangled like the larger I have used.
i use zebco slabseekers and level winds with the drag set fairly loose if i get snagged up.....depth control is a large help.....level winds are dye marked for depth control.....
I bought some zebco baitcasters from Grizzly jigs, 20 bucks each and are a pretty good baitcaster with thumb button and a good drag. They are not online but are shown in the catalog.

i say it all matters what are you going to do? bait caster for spider rigging and dipping and spinning reel for castin and shootin docks...bait caster is easy to get the right depth because you click the button and pull 2 foot at a time. where you cant do that with a spinning reel unless you got the drag turned down...then you set the hook and pull tons of slack when you got the drag down...this is just my .02 cent on the whole thing...hope it helps

On Truman should be fishing less than 12 ft. so depth marking should not be a problem. 10 ft. seems to be the magic depth on Truman. I have seen the slab seekers and they are a cool way of marking line. One of them would be nice for winter fishing. When they get deeper than the rod length used it makes it tough with out marking line.
Did you get the pinnacle rods from monks Jarred?if so how are they?
