    Default Spider Rigging Questions

First off I've never Spider Rigged before nor have I seen it done other than in videos. I'm seriously interested in getting into it especially for summertime fishin. I've done some reading on the equipment, but obviously I want to get the best bang for my buck. I've come to the conclusion that the Tite-Lok series of holders is the way to go, over the Driftmaster and Bee-Ready brands, but please tell me if that's not the case. I was thinking about Wally marshall rods, since they are reasonably priced in 10ft or 12ft, but please say if there's a better option. I have no clue on reels, wether to use spinning or baitcast style.

Most of you have seen that I have a Champion bassboat, so I'm assuming I can still mount the rod holders. I figure I'll just havta wait until I put the trolling motor down before I put the holder in it's base.

Any help/tips/suggestions on brands getting started would be greatly appreciated. Keep in mind, I want to keep it as least expensive as possible, but have descent equipment. No point in going overboard just starting out.

    Thanks guys!

After using tite-lok rod holders now having a set of perrotti bilt, I like the perrotti's alot better. Easier to adjust than the titeloks, for getting the rod in right location. The connection to the base is threaded verses a wingnut to tighten it down.

For reels you can use about any type. I purchased some small zebco baitcaster reels from grizzly jigs. That are not on the website but are in the catalog for 22 bucks.

Ted do the Perotti's have a bolt/nut for the base or is it a lag bolt type? I ask this because whatever I buy will be screwed directly to the deck (I can't get underneath the deck) and I wanna make dang sure it's gonna hold.

Check out http://www.hitekstuff.com/index.html I have his holders all over my little Champion... A T-bar with 4 holders front and center, T-bars with 2 holders each on either side of the front deck and either side of the back deck. Sturdy. Rectangular aluminum plate secures to the deck with 4 screws. T-bar fits into plate with tongue and groove attachment (and snugged with bolt). When you remove the holders, the 4 plates are nearly flush with the deck.

The perotti bilt holders bases are held in with nuts and bolts this is to assure they are sturdy. They may be slightly more but they are all stainless will never break the only way you need to buy a new one is if you lose yours. We always use bnm trolling rods I would not get any rods shorter than 14'. Ozark rods are also great but i've never used their trolling rods. You are close to edgar outddors in versailles go to him and you can see perottibilt holders and his rods. Good luck

Ok, so the Perotti's may not be right for me as I won't be able to get under the deck to tighten the nuts. I definately like the looks of the HiTek holders. Are the Buck's Pro Staff trolling rods the ones your talkin about?

I use exactly what you said, I use the heavier version (1 piece shaft) of the tite-lock black widow and I use 12 ft wally marshall rod/reel combo. This set-up has worked perfectly for me. The wm's are 30 bucks @ bps. They actually have them on sale for 19.99 online right now but are back ordered. I just ordered 3 more but no idea if I'll get them. Don't know anything about the pierottis but I am happy w/ the black widow. I wouldn't go any shorter than 12 ft on the rods.

So 12' rods will be ok to use or not? If they will work, those WM combos are right up my alley as far as inexpensive goes. I'll stop by BPS tomorrow and see if they have any stock.
I really appreciate the input so far folks!

Longer rods for clearer waters. You can get away with ten ft. rods at times on Truman. Just have to watch for prop wash on that short of rods.

    Whistler,

Before you jump on the WM's check out the 10' Proangler rods, great rod and awesome price. You can find them at www.proanglertackle.com. I have five of them and really enjoy them! I have also used, and really like, Ozark Rods. They have several different sizes and are reasonably priced. I think you would be a lot happier with a different rod than WM's.

Regardless it never hurts to look and ask!

    Good luck on your endeavors!
