    Default LOZ 5/18/07 Report

Hit the Glaize Arm in the afternoon/evening from 4 until dark. 2 of us ended up with 21 keepers and only caught about 5 shorts. So keepers to shorts average was excellent. Fished just one cove. Fish were in 17 foot of water tight around structure. Fishing was a little slow because if you were not right on top of the structure you did not get a bite. Were catching them on minnows under a bobber and tightlining jigs with nibblets.

I've been fishin up there too and you're right about the nibbles if you dont have one on you're haulin water...i've been fishin a little shallower and catching limits until today....things have got to get better they have been awful stubborn you just about have to pry their mouth open to get a bite.

Bugs, I'm still taking a long weekend sometime this year and get you guide me on LOZ once, if you're willing. I'd like to see how trolling cranks would work there.

Anytime speck i've got a spot or two that i had limited success with cranks last year,i would enjoy going with someone that has alot more experince than i do with cranks,i ordered a 12' medium action rod to experiment with pushing cranks...i like the idea of pushing instead of pulling.

    Pushing cranks?
How do you do that? Spider rigging?
What cranks have you had success with? I do fairly well with wigglewarts, but I pull them.
the trick to catch that finnicky speck....
gently set the hook just before the peck

Pushing cranks is kind of like spider rig trolling on steroids. From what I've read about it, you need to use heavy rods on the front of the boat and pull the same cranks that you'd otherwise use. I've wanted to try it also since I'm partial to pulling Bandits.

Thanks, Speck! Think I will stick to pulling!
