Dfar,
When you say trolling do you mean crank baits or spiderrigging?
Bulletman aka Tommy
Both for me Tommy. 10 to 15lb dipping and 30lb for trolling.
I've been using braid for dipping the last 2 years but just bought some hi-vis mono to try. Just got tired of the line wrapping around the rod tip all the time.

Been using 15 lb braid for many years now. Started with Stren Hi-Vis until the quit making it in the yellow. Switch to Power Pro after trying several brands. Used it for around 5-6 years or so. Only times I ever have it wrap around the tip is if using a 1/8 oz or lighter jig head and missing a bite. I use a 3/16 oz 95% of the time so rarely have the issue with it.
That's heavy, man... heavy.
(read that in circa late '60's early 70's doper movie character)
The best way to get to where you want to be in the future is to act like you are there TODAY.
What action of poles are you using for dipping trees. I have always liked my ultralight with dipping trees/brush piles. Will a real that says it is for 4/6 lb test handle 10/15 pound test line?
Most people I fish with 9 to 12 foot dipping rods i.e. B&M bgjp - Ozark- Sam Heaton. Tend to be a little lighter than what we rig with due to the fatigue factor.

For dipping tree's I use a Todd Huckabee pro series or meat dragger rod with an all graphite bait cast reel and Power pro slick8 20# braid. I don't think you will find a lighter more sensitive rod than the Huckabee rods. I bought one this year and won't buy anything else for crappie fishing. With their rods and braided line you can jig a tree and feel every limb. We have a lot of walleye and wipers where I fish and they will handle them or a 15" crappie
