They are a cool looking fish. I caught several winters ago but was not big enough to keep. A couple days later Buckwheat caught a really nice one in the same spot. I think his was around 12".
They are really cool. I caught one at Truman this year. Supposedly they are a mix between a white and black crappie

I haven't caught one yet this year, but usually catch a few each year from Pomme.
I caught some black nose crappie slabs at Tablerock. Going next week, will shoot over a picture if i catch another slab
my brothers pond in East Texas is full of those things. I never knew what they were. Definitely a strange-looking crappie
Actually, they are neither a Magnolia Crappie or a cross between a black & white Crappie .... they are simply a Black Crappie with a marker gene that causes the black stripe. They occur naturally in quite a few states, from the midwest to Florida. Many people call them Arkansas Blacknose, because they occur naturally in a section of the White River. Many were caught and transplanted into small lakes by biologists, to see if stocking those waters would help. They used them because the black stripe was an easy identification mark. Some were flooded out of those small waters & got into the major river systems, and many more were used as stock fish for larger bodies of water.
A true "Magnolia" Crappie IS a hybrid (Blacknose/White Crappie) but most of them are sterile. Mississippi waters are the only places I know of that contain Magnolia Crappie.
We've had many, many discussions about Blacknose, so if you do an Advanced Search on this site for "Blacknose" .... you'll find lots of interesting reading about them.
Several lakes in KY have them, but I've only caught them out of one small lake, here. Mostly I've caught them at Watts Bar in E. Tenn. My partner & I got into some good ones, there, this past Fall :
