    Default LOZ - 5/16 Forecast

    Hi,

I fished the LOZ the weekend of the 2nd and on Friday the 2nd caught black crappie males in 4-6 foot of water on chunk rock secondary point and on Saturday we caught white crappie females in 20 foot of water in dock wells. Both were prespawn and the eggs were still fairly hard. This week should have been killer and by the lack of posts, I take it the spawn is on full force with the full moon. Both days the Bobby Garland or Crappie Critter with minnow worked good.

    What's working this week?

Saturday morning before 7 the water temp was 62 degrees. Caught some dandies out off the end of docks in 10-11 feet of water. Didn't find any big groups, but one here and one there. As the day warmed the fished pulled shallower and were related to shade. Managed to get my wife into some decent fish.

We found a few fish, but scattered. One small one here, another decent one there. Most were in the 4-10 range on jig with minnow. The bass were on the beds, but most would not hit anything. They swam off the bed when a lure came near. They seemed to be males preparing the beds and on Sunday afternoon, I did notice the bass attacking the carp and sunfish hovering around. This is the week of the bass spawn.

I have been going to the Lake of the Ozarks since 1983 and I have never seen the water this clear, never. I could see things below my dock and it is in 12 feet of water.
