Hate to say it but There is no Length limit on Crappie on Mark Twain, there may be a length limit in a tournament but no state limit. Think they should put at least a nine but would prefer a 10" Limit.
And there is No Culling Crappie, tournament or not, not approved by the conservation commission .....nope no culling. and as for cheating, well let me tell you from personal experience, you will get cheated in a small club tournament. yep I was there, and I got cheated, and I never went back. so a big money pay out will bring out the worst in some people, and daddy always said,,,,,Anyone is capable of anything under the right circumstances.

I Don't Know,but I can always use help
I think seven is a good number.....teams bring in their seven BEST fish.....if a guy is good enough at catching crappie to be in CRAPPIEMASTERS surely he can catch seven nice fish and not need to bring in 7 seven inchers.....lol...( I say that tongue in cheek). To me these tournaments aren't about how MANY crappie you can catch or about catching limits but more so about finding the larger fish. Judging by the weigh in totals for the tournament at MTL a lot of presumably GOOD crappie fishermen had a tough time finding big fish. Kudos to the guys who did.....it ain't easy. MTL is my home lake and I can tell ya first hand that this is a tough year for big crappie so catches like that are pretty impressive.
I recently organized a small fundraiser tournament on MTL and had in place a 9 inch minimum. We had a couple boats choose not to weigh in any fish because they couldn't get themselves to bring in a bunch of skinny little 9 inch fish. By the way our winning boat had 7 fish for a total of 5 lbs 11.9 ounces.
Crappie Masters does polygraph test after every tournament for top couple teams and then some random teams down the paying positions. If your going to cheat in it you better be a real smooth talker.
Gave up on tournament's along time ago. Like Mr. Beagle, got tired of being cheated. Twain has no length limit on crappie. I'm all for a 10 inch limit. "So I put one on myself". As for Bass cheater's, Don't let me find your stashed stringer. With over 20 years on Twain. I have a trophy wall of stringers I've found. All Bass were set free to fight another day, Ha Ha Ha.
I talked to a conservation agent last summer and he said they had found 117 fish baskets in truman. If they found 117 just think how many they didnt find. A person is gonna cheat whether u allow trailering ot not. Thats what is nice about the masters doing 1 random. You neber know if u will get tested or not!
Life is a game................ Fishin is SERIOUS!!!
those are the rules so just go with the flow, nobodody is forcing u you to fish lol
Usually the reason lakes don't have a length limit on crappie is because there are to many small crappie and they want people to take them out.
When the tournaments were having fishermen weigh in 15 fish, the locals were claiming that we were taking all "their" fish. 7 is a very good number to weigh in.
As for your comment on being able to weigh in 7-7inchers. Yes you could and you would have taken last place. My nephew only weighed 6 fish, fishing
by himself, but still beat 30 teams. Quality fish always makes a difference. I would challenge you to get in those tournaments and beat up on those "crappie" (lol)
fishermen.
