Default Fishing on top of each other at Smithville

Is this common? I was out there 05/18 and it seemed like every little cove had 3-5 boats fishing next to each other. In the past I've always thought this was frowned upon? I also realize that with the size of the lake and the amount of people fishing that there may not be another option.

Basically I'm asking if you were fishing in a little cove/bay and someone comes in "your spot" would you be irritated or is that just the way it is at Smithville?

It happens, especially when you dont want to take the boat out and you bank fish and youre the only one catching something and along comes a few anglers, but for some reason when youre catching and their not they wonder what you got and generally I keep my jig out of sight, that'll show them. Haha! tight lines

it is ok with me if you or anyone else wants to fish close to me, we can visit, fish, help each other out, teach ,or learn, I believe the great time I have on the water should be shared, I think If I have the opportunity to teach or help someone on the water I should, I should not get upset if someone fishes close to me, I should welcome the person. I know a lot of people are selfish in this great sport of fishing I choose not to be one of them. I have been fishing a super secret spot and have had a boat come up close start fishing and catching, and I started to not catch as often,,, did I get mad, nope, just gave them the business for a while and then the fish started to bite for me again...... I learned to share as a young lad in tater town, and I never forgot how.

I would only assume it was that way this weekend more than normal due to the wind being so bad. There was only so many spots that a guy could fish comfortably. Just my thoughts usually not that bad there. Unless it is Thursday night bass tournaments lol

    I'm with Beagleman.

Despite that lake's size there on any given day the best fishing (not that I ever find it) could be concentrated in just a few areas.

Today lots of boats we hanging out in the same areas trying to stay the heck out of the wind.

BTW, I nearly got skunked. But not quite. Didn't see another soul catch a single fish whilst I was out there.

With the lake being so close to a city of 1 million +, it's pretty common to have someone do some of the things that are considered rude. I'm as much into having some alone time on the lake, as I'm into fishing, so I don't care for the "crowded" coves, and I've had guys nearly scrape the paint off my boat when they cut in front of me going down a bank. So if you're going to fish Smithville, you better get used to those types of things.

    I'm with Beagleman as well.
I actually started out on Saturday, but I had let the two son's put the boat up the prior weekend, and they left the power on. so I had a dead battery,

The youngest and I parked the boat, and took off to the shore. We were catching fish (after a while), but three younger kids (16 to 18 yr) across the little cove weren't. The only only way we had got them to start taking anything was to throw on a "nibblet". We ended up throwing them a partial jar, and they started catching a few.

Now kind of a late report:
We ended up with 24 keepers, probably 3 times that in little ones. Stayed away from the banks after a while, because of all the little ones. 14.25" was our biggest, with over half of the others in the 12 to 13" range. Didn't keep anything under 10.5". All were caught in 6 to 8 fow about 3.5' down. Jig under a slip bobber. Using blk/char umbrella and elec chicken swim bait. Wouldn't bite without a nibblet though.

I ended up back out to the bank on Sunday same spot, lots more small ones on the bank. Bigger fish were biting, but very light. seemed like females were moving in and out through the 5 hours that I spent. Used the same plan, ended up with a limit. Fish were a little smaller though.

New phone and I need to figure out how to download some pictures.

Nothing catches other fishermen like you catching fish. My father-in-law is a riot like that... he can be fishing on one side of a cove, see somebody on the other side catch a few, and want to pick up and move over there.

If you see me catching fish and want to tie up alongside, you're more than welcome. Just be prepared to gab a little.
