    Default Navigating Smthville

Anyone free to show a rookie the ropes? Only been up north of W bridge a few times (destroyed a prop a few years back). Mostly i stick to the area within site of the ramp and anywhere off the main body of open water. Got a new boat and really don't want to hurt it like i did my old boat. I've got a humminbird GPS and used it to track a clear path into a few of the coves just north of W but haven't tried venturing to far up. Anyone know of a good program i can use to chart a path so i can follow the old creek? or better yet anyone wanna go fishing when it warms up a bit? I see guys running full bore up so obviously it can be done, just afraid of a repeat of the last time I went north!

thanks guys! Yeah I wasn't planning on going out this weekend although i REALLY want to! still got some new toys to rig up on the boat and this 10 day forecast looks like its gonna stay cold for awhile longer! Just want a "guide" to hold my hand so I'm not holding my lower unit in mine! showing me honey holes as well is optional

Welcome to the site!! I've never gotten to fish with Dave, but heard he knows his way around up there. You could try keeferfish if you want to go so fast that the stumps actually move out of the way for him

I am in the same boat as mr stratos, so the way i see it, once it warms up, we shall put together a train of boats and chug along the north end of the lake.
    I kinda like the idea

he must be one of those guys we make the joke about the guys with enough money to buy a new prop every weekend!! even though the areas I KNOW i still go slow!!

A little boat train sounds good to me! That would be AWESOME!! I'm sure I'm not the only one that gets a little intimidated by all those trees up there! i bet we could get a big group of guys interested in this for sure

A stainless steel prop is a good investment... Have mine dressed (nicks and small dents removed nearly every season).
Go slow, lean TOWARD the stump when you feel one thump the hull... A bit later this spring, you'll find plenty of boats headed up river... Follow one that's moving at a sane speed.

Shoreline Fiberglass in Smithville and Midwest Propeller in Olathe do good work.

always happy to give local business some work!!

My new boats got a stainless steel prop which should make breaking off a fin a thing of the past, but not really tempted to test that!
