    Default Mark Twain Lake advise

Hi guys I'm new to the site. Going to Mark Twain Lake for a get away next weekend. Was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on where to stay? Would like to bring dog so would need to allow pets. Also not knowing the lake at all would you recommend a guide for a day of fishing, or just try it alone? Was hoping to crappie fish I've heard it is decent lake for them. Thank you.

    Welcome to the board rjb97
Ok now about Mark Twain Lake, there is quite a few places to stay ( Southfork, Cannon Dam, Country Inn ) and a few more, I don't know about Southfork and Country Inn but Cannon Dam will let you have pets, I just came from there, you can contact them at
Cannon Dam General Store & Cabins
    42526 Cabin Road, Rt. J
    Perry,
    MO. 63462
    (573) 565-3432
I believe they have a resident guide, If you know nothing about the lake I would recommend
Fishing right now is on and off, some people are catching there limits some are not even catching, I came home with 13 keepers, thought it was a little tough but there was severe thunderstorms Saturday early and I don't think that helped.
Depending on where you put in and fish, there is a lot of stumps in the creek arms so be careful. Water temp is around 60 down close to dam, water today was clear at dam area ( see about 2 feet down ) about middle on the lake it has more color and you can only see about 6 inches.
    I Don't Know,but I can always use help

Lake is on a nice rise right now.........should make things interesting for sure. Next couple of weeks look really nice in terms of weather, so once the fish get acclimated to the lake levels, I'd be surprised if you didn't find some on the banks or real close.

    Mongo,

What time did you get off the water? It was really gettin with it about 5:00 yesterday when we were leaving our place!

I just stayed at Country Inn Resort and it's a nice place but if I recall they don't allow pets. Here is the phone # to call (573)267-3800. We fished over Easter wknd and a big cold front came in and slowed the fishing for us, we caught fish and some over 12" but they were in 15' to 18' fow holding about 10'to12' down we got the best bites on blk/blue or blk/chartruse skirts or orange twister tails & minnows. We put in at Ray Berhenes boat ramp and fished mostly in the Indian Creek arm's Hope this helps, Good Luck And Good Fishing I'm thinking about coming back down on the weekend of the 28 I really enjoy fishing Mark Twain Lake

    rjb97,

You should do fine on MTL by yourself. The water is around 609.3 and suppose to crest around 610 on thursday. Crappie are really pounding the bait right now. big Females staging out in 18 fow and males near structure at the banks. Went out with my dad yesterday afternoon around 4 and caught 13 keepers. We dont keep anything under 10''. Good Luck to you this weekend.

Thanks we fished near the old silo and island if that tells you anything. Wont tell you outright but will point you in the right direction. If you know the lake you will know where I am talking about.
