If its a newer model MinnKota (after the Maxxum came out) I know they've had issues with the switch board. A family friend found this out after it spent all winter overloading his circuit breaker and killing both his batteries... he ordered the repair kit and it seemed to be working out fine this year. My dad's 74lb Maxxum did the same thing and he was smart enough to put a non-automatic resetting circuit breaker, so that saved his batteries.
Just a thought.
