I fished blue springs a couple weeks ago and was able to avg around 10" on the blacks. Caught 1 white that was 13"+. If you can deal with the pleasure boaters there might be some pigs in there!

Really appreciate all the info! Can't wait to post back about all the hawgs we pull out of the JaCo lakes! Might have to turn on the charm to get the old man out there this week instead of next. I know it should be the other way around, but I've got crappie fishin in my blood and can never get enough, but also don't get alot of chances to go! Boo-hoo! Might also head up to Smithville soon. Got info on a good mushroom spot up there and can access it from the lake. Great times, fish and shrooms! Well if you see a man and a woman looking befuddled in a Lowes aluminum boat, sometime soon on any of these lakes, please say hi and point us in the right direction if you can and we'll do the same!

    Hey guys and gals,
Headed back out to our little spot at Reed last night around 6:00. I had fun, but not so much for the boys-husband and son. We fished for a couple of hours, targeting crappie of course. Had alot of hits, but they musta been babies, too small to take the bait. Did loose a couple tails off of my baits though. Took advise from someone here on the board about crappie nibbles and now I swear I'll never be without em! Anyway I ended up with a nice variety of fishies-2 crappie, 1 bluegill and 2 catfish that hit one cast after the other as the skies were turning dark. My poor boys, not a fish between em and they had to drag me outta there-as usual! Hope to go again soon, but now back to work. I am gonna try to get some mushroom hunting in this afternoon. The guy on the morelhunters.com board said he found 13 yesterday in Jackson county. It's on!!!
Happy fishing and hunting to all!

Jealous, if and when you end up at LV, here's a place to try. Provided you're in a boat, go to the swim beach and line yourself up on the sidewalk that runs from the beach house to the water. Motor out in to water that is 14 to 18 feet deep. At that point you should see brush on the bottom and some irregularities in the contour. There should also be quite a few fish on your graph too. This is a good spot pretty much all summer beginning after the spawn. A pretty good place to jig or minnow fish or drift fish (spider rig). As mention before the quality of the fish is somewhat lacking but so is the fuel bill by not running to Truman. Although I have caught fish as large as 15" out of Longview. But, dont get too excited because those are far and few between. If you spend some time searching, there are several decent spots around the lake. To me Longview is the most "fishable" of the Ja Co lakes. And dont forget Prarie Lee.. Good luck and see you there!
