The transducer for the Lowrance HDS Structure scan is about 5 inches long, and that is side and downscan only, the
units use a different transducer for sonar. that is a lot of stuff hanging off of a trolling motor. Especially the way I bang into things.

To answer the original question I run a Lowrance HDS 5 with structurescan at driver's console and a Lowrance X-96 on trolling motor.

From what I hear the ducer for the new Elite DSI will be much smaller than what is used now for side and down scan units. So should not be bad for a trolling motor. I have the HDS 5 with Insight mapping in my console but do not have the structure scan on it. Just a shoot through hul ducer which I think needs to be replaced. But all I use it for is GPS and running trails anyway.

I would agree. The DI will only need one crystal since it doesn't have side or 2D. Should be small enough for any Trolling motor. From what I have seen, it is not network capable either. Just looked at the site, they claim it's a slim, low profile transducer.
