    Default Bull Shoals a bust

went below the dam this morning looking for Walleye, but came home empty handed:o Tried minners, crawdads, jigging spoons and cranks. One other boat was there and saw them catch a half dozen keepers so eased up and started a conversation. They were using nightcrawlers on an 1/8 ounce jig head twitching it along the bottom. Hauled butt back down to the ramp and went on a worm run. By the time we got back they had shut down completely. After that, we caught 2 Rainbows and a couple Bass was all. had to release the Trout as neither of us had a stamp. Learned something today, so next time there will be toothy fish in the boat:D

the handfull of times i went fishing for walleye with a buddy we would drift over flats and we would use a 1/8 or bigger jig head with a med length worm but we would blow the work up. what i mean is if you have ever seen the tool its like a small plastic bottle with a needle on the end you insert the needle into the work and squeeze the bottle and it will push air into the work and make it big, once that is done the worm will float. we would drop the jig head with worm down to the bottom and give it a pull every now and then as we drift it along the bottom. that always worked for us, he used to go to Minnisota every year and the first couple years he hired a guide and thats how the guide taught him to fish for them. i would love to get me some walleye, good eating and great fight. good luck next time out.

Floating jigheads fished on a Lindy rig will keep those crawlers off the bottom too.

I never realized there was much besides Trout on the river below Bull Shoals. Isn't that where Gaston's is ?

I was below Powersite dam at Forsyth. sorry I neglected to make mention of location.
We put in a bit after 7:00 and was it ever foggy! had to idle all the way from the 76 bridge to the dam and still almost creamed a guy in an aluminum boat He came hauling butt out of nowhere cutting across in front of me from Port to Starboard with no lights on.

Gonna pick up one of those worm pumps next trip and do the Lindy rig thing. I started with a Lindy rig and Minnow...oops, sorry....minner:p and never got a hit. After we got some worms we tried imitating the guys that were catching the Eyes by dragging jigs on the bottom, but I think a Lindy rig would be better.

Water was high and lots of trash just below the dam. Some water was coming over the gates but they weren't generating.

Anyone know if the Walleye hang out there year around, or do they head back down the lake to deeper water as the water temps go up?

From what I was told some stay around all year and usually are caught on the generator side when there on. If you need some lindy weights in a bigger size let me know I pour them and have then up to 1oz so you can stay more vertical in the current. I also have pencil weights you could use on a 3-way and a crawler harness. I had company for the Weekend and I took them on the Rock and we Liny riged for bass and caught about 40 with the biggist 4#. Going trolling tomorrow morning for crappie will let you know how I did. Give me a call and we can talk more about the walleye fishing.

    Thanks Rick

Maybe we can get together this coming week and hook a few Crappie on the Rock. I'm interested in the weights or borrowing the molds to pour a batch. I have the electric lead melting pot and some jig molds, but no sinker stuff. If you hear of anyone letting go of sinker molds, especially an egg mold, let me know. Maybe we can swap jig heads for weights or something. I sure like those sickle hook jigs Buzzy makes so need to order me some 2/0 sickles for Bass jigs

Thinking of heading back to Powersite early tomorrow with the wife and see if we can put a few eyes in the boat

If you go to the drug store, and buy a syringe, and needle, it will do the same as the pump. Doug
