Pulled my first 2 lb. crappie ever out of South Fork last year..........trust me, there are good fish to be had. I know of four 2 lb. fish that came out of South Fork alone last year.

Keep 20 fish tonight 2 of them was 15in one weighed 1.7 and the other was 1.8 . we fished in 8-12 ft of water about 4 ft deep. they were not bitting real fast but the quality made up for it. we used red and char. umbrella with orange head. we jiged around trees about 10 ft from bank. I think im in love I tried my new brush cutter by b&m it works great.

Nice report MO, good job on the quality too! It's been a long time since 12-13" fish weren't just an anomoly on Twain'.

Some of the guys I've talked to seem to think the males will start showing up on the banks in a few places by next weekend, but I wonder if this cool front will knock them back a bit. Probably be the same pattern you were fishing for another 1 - 2 weeks maybe....

    Default just some small ones

I just laugh when I read the posts from folks who talk about there only being small crappie here at MTL. We have seen quite a few come through already this spring that were over 2#. That is a fine crappie if you are north of the Mason Dixon Line. By the looks of it the spawn is still maybe 2 weeks away, but there are quite a few crappie getting caught in 2-6 feet of water. We had a couple of limits come through here today, so the cold hasn't put them off to much yet. Tomorrow might prove different. The fact they are not drawing any water for the next week might offset the cold. Ray Kiel is the guide mentioned earlier and he mostly long line trolls. It's still early, but it sure looks like it will be a great year for crappie fishing here.

I second that. You just have to find the big ones.I went to arkansas about two weeks ago and cought 6 fish they were all about 2.5 pounds. then i turn around and catch a couple in our lake that were almost 2 ibs and i would rather fish here any day.I will try to go after them biggins again tomarrow will post how i do.

Hi Ron, Ya mite try introducing yourself to these folk's, being a newbie on the site, as of March 31, 2010. Let them no of your business, so they can see all these pictures of the big crappie you have posted on your site, already this year, so they can see them. And they'll no where your at so they may book a place to stay, for a trip. Catch a Bunch

I hit Twain today- long day, but the weather was great! I ended up catching 24 in all but only kept 12. I had 5 of those between 13 and 14 inches. None of the others were less than 9.5. I caught about all of them in about 15 feet of water mid-lake. Great day, but I did have some people encroaching on my areas working the "bent pole pattern".
