How many fry ,eggs does one fish lay. That will probally help answer that question too. When a lake gets over populated and theres not enough food to go around that effects things too.

One white crappie can lay between 5000 and 30,000 eggs. Assume only 10% reach maturity (the actual number is probably higher) That would produce 500 to 3000 more adult crappie for every successful spawning crappie. Multiply that by the hundreds of thousands of spawning crappie, that equals ALOT of fish!!!

Exactly, lots of folks dont understand. They just think about the fish coming out of a lake.Sometimes you may have bad spawn years and the fishing may be tough.Sometimes good spawn years and fishing is great. You cant control mother nature though.

Spillway - uppermost 2 feet of water comprises the volume of downstream flow (this is where most of the oxygen in the lake is)

Dam - (usually) deep drain that allows mostly unproductive/low oxygen content water to release.

You math is spot on. BUT! You are assuming that all guides always have 2 or more clients on board. As often as not, they have one (1). So that throws the figures way off. Why not leave all this to the biologists. They do pretty fair at managing the ponds. If they weren't we wouldn't have the great fishing we do.

But lots of days the guides take the extra 10 fish to make a boat limit which is 40 a day.

I agree to leave it to the biologists to make these calls. I’ve got MY job to worry about. Not going to do theirs for free on C.C, plus you know what they say about Opinions!!! Fish going thru the dams

I feel I was quite conservative in my analysis. I was just stating my opinion. I am glad we have this forum in which we all can voice our opinions and agree to disagree.

Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.

We should shoot this dead horse. #1 We have more than plenty of fish . If only half of my throwbacks are female , somebody better keep fishing . #2 We got spoiled when 90% of every crappie caught was a legal keeper . #3 It is good that we have fellow fishermen that care about the lakes but eventually it is up to the C.O.E. , M.D.W.F.P. ,And our legislature to address these issues . Headed to" Crank fest," see ya !

I can’t figure out how guides have anything to do with fish going through the spillway. Lots of fish go through when it’s cold and there pulling water. They conserve energy and just go with flow
