If I were going to long line close to you ? Choctaw Lake . Jigging ? Would be south. Washington or Eagle . JMO so now you know where not to go . lol
Where would it be? Wading included. I'm thinking Washington? He is dang near tall as I am and has been duck hunting a few times. He's eager to catch a crappie, and eager enough to be patient. I believe he'll fish all day. (If I feel it necessary to fish all day we will, regardless. He's been warned. )
Hopefully we will get on some fish, it'll be less than ideal conditions but that's fishing. I would love to keep his mind occupied during as many months of the year as possible with the outdoors. It's one of the things that saved me from going down the wrong paths and/ or late night escapades. Can't stay out at night when ya gotta wake up in the morning!
PM me if ya want.
I appreciate any help, and I'll forward it on!

I can't fish Choctaw they drained it! I used to fish Choctaw sometimes 4 days a week when I lived 5 minutes from it. There were some very nice specks in there, and on a trip where a limit was caught, 1 or 2 were going to be white crappie in the 14-15" range. There were chinquapin in there big enough to write home about!
I've considered taking him to Kemper Lake. I took my cousin on March 9th and we wound up with 20 keepers. I'm noticing a lot more white crappie in my box coming out of Kemper. I like to think that I never get skunked at Kemper, but fishing at Kemper and bumping nasty brush piles with Kentucky rigs ain't fun for me taking a beginner. And those dang Kentucky bass will run through 8 poles in a second if I'm not watching all 8. I just hate the learning curve for the brush pile bumping technique required there.
Had not heard of them draining Choctaw. My oldest boy and I have fond memories of a simpler time in the 1980's there . Put a 1/16 oz. or 1/32 . set the trolling motor on 3, and take off . No big motor allowed or needed (good thing as money was very tight ) . We would fillet fish(in the boat) till we had a small playmate full of crappie then go home and cook them . Great times/memories .
Okatibbee would be a great place to take a kid. Easy fishing, unless windy. Lots of fish to keep him occupied.

Feesh is right for spider rigging. For wading with a young guy, of the big 4 I'd send you to Enid. He'll get bit and should have a chance at a real fish if the weather will cooperate.

A lot like the old Wannabe... except with fewer bad words. And Karate chop action. But, yes, still purtier than you.
