Default Is it time to put up the cranks

I noticed the guys this weekend spyder rigging minnows had better luck than I did with cranks. I caught 10 with maybe 2 keepers on Enid. I didn't get started until 2:00 till 6:00 if that had anything to do with it. There were 2 guys coming out that said the caught 50 or so with 15 keepers at the dam and were
an out of minnows. I fished down and back in same depth water and cranks at same depth with out a bite.
I was wondering if it was time to pack up the cranks and buy some minnows or do we still have a while?

Think it depends on the day, once I buy minners I'm done, hate swapping crap back and forth.

I'll pull cranks on KY Lake until the water temps get down into the low 60s. My last several trips I averaged several keepers more than my buddies who were two-poling and spider rigging. Longliners have started up but most I've talked to are catching big numbers of shorts. My last crank trip we had 30 keepers up to 15" with one short crappie all day.

I'm heading across the river in a couple weeks and leaving the cranks at the house!

Yes I do live close to the lake, actually Grenada and Enid both, be in the water in 30 minutes tops at either one of them. I actually live on Turkey Creek on the back side of Grenada Lake.

We were at Grenada for a couple of days at the end of September. Started out pulling cranks with only a couple of keepers. We swapped to minnows and ended up with 42 total for Tuesday and Wednesday. The fish were 13 to 16 inches long.

WOW Mrdux-30 keepers!! Sounds like I still have a lot to learn about cranks. I am not having the luck pulling with weights as I was without. I like the weights for control of depth and ability to make sharper turns but not for the fish I have been catching. It may not have been any better without weights though. It may have been the time of the day. I didn't get started until 2:00.
