BK's 3.12
3.22 from Thursday
My yankee partner, crappiecrazybk, and I hit the water at Grenada Lake this week to fish the new American Crappie Trail tournament. He got down Tuesday night and we hit the lake Wednesday morning in the fog, man it was thick. We found some really good fish, think the first one was 2.57 or so, we just kept moving not hammering anything. Thursday morning we found more fish and even had a 3.22 in the mix, man we had it figured out.
Well Grenada Lake being the bipolar ole gal she is had other ideas for us. Friday morning we could not fish any of the water we had located fish in, we tried but it was insane!!!! With that we made a move and headed around to the north bank and at least got out of the rollers, we moved three times over there but just never got on anything. Whooped and whimpering we limped back into Grenada Landing with our tails tucked and posted up a big fat zero for the first day. After seeing the other guys weigh in we didn't feel too bad but we still had our lips poked out pretty good. When the results were posted we were in an outstanding 45th place, tied with 18 another teams.
Saturday did not look good at 5am, radar showing thunderstorms, wind howling still out of the north but a little more NE this morning. We needed a slight shift and we thought we might could fish some of our fish. Called BK and let him made the call, he said "Let's do it," so I headed to Grenada Landing. as I crossed the dam I stopped on the levy and got out of the truck to get a feel for wind direction and speed. Speed was howling and the wind had shifted to the NE just enuff, maybe. At the ramp we talked again, radar don't look good and then we hear thunder. For those of you who followed my thunderstorm adventure last summer you know I was not excited about this. We decided to wait for this storm to come through and then go out and we did.
Heading out it was BAD on the lake, some kinda rough but we kept going. When we set the boat down our hearts sank, not enuff wind shift for our spot, what do we do now. Half mile up the lake was another place we knew of so we went and took a look and sure enuff, up close to the back it was manageable, time to drown some minners.
The day was long, but we did catch a fish every now and then, much better than the day before. We were in for a grind, wind and rain, lightning staying to the south, we were in for a very long day.
At 315 we had 6 fish and BK had caught his biggest crappie of his life, this was a good day for sure! Rolled em up and headed in, ride wasn't as bad but it got pretty ruff before we got to the landing.
Talking to folks we really didn't know what to expect other than we had wiped the skunk off ourselves and for 6 fish not a bad stringer. As we came to the weigh in line Matt Morgan, ACT Director, checked our bag and asked what we thought she weighed. We responded, 2.88 on our scales, he said he bet she would make 3 easy and when held her up to the camera and done a spill about the build of this particular fish, compared it to a football.
As we moved through the line with our fish in an aereated tank we did not know where we would end up but we sure weren't in last any more!!!!
As BK took the fish to the scales they settled in at 11.97, good stringer for either day. We then weighed the Phat Girl and she came in at 3.12 and BK had his first 3lber!!!!!!!!!
We made a good move, from 45th to 17th, not quite in the money but no egg on our faces today.
Thanks Brian for asking me to fish man, looking forward to Sardis!!
