Default Shakespeare Line Counters....Complete waste of $....???

I bought some of these last year, but didn't get a chance to use them...... Shakespeare Line Counter, Other Fishing Tools, Fishing Tools, Fishing : Cabela's
If anybody's ever tried'em, I know they're considered the last resort for keeping up with how much line you've got out like when pulling cranks, but assuming you've got the tensioner dialed in as good as you can, compared to the good reels with built in counters, are they pretty much a waste.........or even ballpark? Got several Diawa SM2A's I like to use when pullin, and don't wanna spend on the line counter reels just yet.

They work fine for me. I do like the connivence of having the counter's built in the reels. But most of the clip-on counters work well. I have had a few go bad from getting rain water in them (not Shakespeare ones) but I have also had some lower end linecounter reels suffer the same fate too.

They work fine with baitcasting reels, on spinning reels they dont work very well. Since you already have baitcasting reels you want to use with them I'd say go ahead but if you had spinning reels I'd recomend you get linecounter reels. With the price Northwoods charges for the Okumas you would be hard pressed to find a decent baitcaster plus the Shakespear counter for less money.

I aint got no good intentions.

I agree. I haven't shopped for line counter reels in quite a while, and didn't realize there were any priced that low.

Those clip ons are junk. I bought some when I first started cranking, and I threw em away. They stink. I bought em on eBay with NO returns.
