Default What is the ratio of metal boats to glass boats ?????

Thinking about re engining my restored 14 foot aluminum boat and going from a 9.9 hp up to around a 30hp engine but with the price of a used engine and cost of converting it over, I was thinking about just purchasing a used rig in the $3K range and was wondering with the conditions (stumps and shallow Corp of Engineer lakes) which would be better. Before I get the its an individual choice I was wondering what the ratio would be here on Mississippi forum for who owned Fibergalss VS metal.

I am from west tn. I was at Abernathy,s here in obion county and the owner (Tootie Abernathy), me and he was talking about diffrent boats. He was tring to sell me a fiber glass, I have a delta marsh 18-60 with a 100 merc. I had told him that i wouldnt take a fiberglass on reelfoot lake for nothing because of all the stumps and now rebar in some stumps. He said if i could take a sledge hammer and knock a hole in any fiberglass boat he had i could have any boat of my choice aluminum or anything he had. SO i went to knockin on some fiber. Chipped some of it in one little spot but could put a hole in that sucker for nothing. I still like the aluminum but i have more faith in the fiberglass now more than ever. glad i didnt bet him my boat i could, cause i lost.

I would guess that most here have aluminum boats as they are more affordable. I have a metal boat, but as soon as finances permit I will buy a glass boat.

Years ago had a glass 15.5 bass boat hp hull. Rated for 85 ran a 115. fished rocks stumps trees bounced that old boat off everything that wouldn't move. Only damage to glass was bottom in very front from running up on concreat ramps and that was just chips. Have run a aluminum since 95. happy with it but when it gets rough wish i had glass. Can't go wrong with either. Just make sure it will suit the style of fishing you plan on doing.

I started with a 16' Tracker (basic john boat) with a 25hp 2 stroke in '09, beat me to death on any good size lake. Traded up to Tracker 175 Pro Crappie with the "revolution hull" which means modified V, I think, with a 75hp 4 stroke. The V makes all the difference in the world, even in rough water, just trim the motor down, very smooth ride.

My 17ft Triton aluminum has the modified V and its really good on the water untill there is about a 1 1/2 chop,,, and I never worry about being hard on it or tearing it up,,,If you go that way get one with welded seams...

True story. I could knock a hole in that sucker to save my life. Believe me with him giving me a hammer and offering for me to try it, I gave it all i had. I am not very little, 6 ft and 205. I was wanting to get me a boat of choice so i was nailing that joker.

Ive had 3 alum boats and 2 fiberglass rigs, I fish the Tenn Tom, Rez, Grenada, several delta oxbow's, and now lakes in Alabama and Florida. I can tell you hands down the fiberglass rides better and fishes better IMO
