Went out and pulled cranks yesterday. Caught a 10# Carp, 2# White Bass, a really small smallmouth, and probably the second largest crappie that I have ever caught in my life. Didn't take any pictures. Didn't keep any fish and wanted to get'em back in the water. I learned quite a few things yesterday. Some are (1) that trolling with 3 poles in a lake with lots of standing trees sure will make some fancy and big knots when my lines tangle. (2) Two poles are more than enough for me to maintain by myself. At least untill I get this style of fishing down better. (3) I still tend to fish the places that I know and am still way too impatient investigating new places. I went back to an area that I had caught fish before instead of staying with a pattern that I first started with yesterday. Again, thanks for all the info!

Glad you got out and tried it. Nothing beats time on the water for learning.

Thanks Major for starting an outstanding thread. As well as thank you to all who contributed to it. I picked up a bunch of useful info. Don't own a boat yet, but never hurts to have a bit of info stowed away in the ol' brain for when the time/oppeortunaty arises to put it to use. learned a whole bunch, and plan on rereading it many times. Thanks again.

been a dozen times. Yet to get hung up. however the water has dropped and might reach some brush now.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and one that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

I don't think it actually stops. It slows way down at the peak of the spawn but can still be caught is shallow water. I have caught them in water so shallow that I could see them take the crank bait.
