    Default New to Middle TN

    Hello everyone,

I posted a couple months back on the main TN forum and several guys told me I should check in with the MTCC on here once I got settled. I moved to Nashville mid-May. I close on a house in Madison later this month. I am itching to put my little boat in the water, test my motor, and do some fishing. From what I can tell if I only have a few hours to fish (typical) Old Hickory Lake is my closest option. Does that sound right to you guys?

I was scoping out a long, narrow inlet on the north side of the lake that had several public launches. Mallard Point was one of the launches. With my boat being small and slow, I figured this would be a protected area to start exploring safely.

Any better suggestions for my first TN crappie fishing trip? I usually only have about a 5-6 hr window and often have one of my young daughters with me, so convenience is key if I am to get anytime on the water at all at this life stage.

Thanks for any help you guys can provide.
no matter what I'm doing, I've got hunting or fishing on my mind...

Welcome to Middle Tennessee. Although I can not help you with info on Ole Hickory, I can still say that most the fishing in TN seems to be good most all the lakes. I have heard more about JPP up your way than I have Ole Hickory but thats just been by a few who fish there and down where we are mostly at. We as MTCC fish Tim's Ford, Normandy and Woods Res which is all closer for southern middle TN folks than would be those from Nashville area, but we have members from that far away. Keep checking crappie.com as somebody will have more information surely. May try posting something on the regular Tennessee forum if there are not responses here. Im sure somebody will see this though and respond for you. Good luck with your fishing. I sent a private message as well.

Look up Drakes Creek. One of my favorite crappie holes. Its off from Old Hickory in Hendersonville.
Trolling cranks is your best option this time of year.

Welcome. I'm south of you but not too far. Most of my trips are short and close to home also. I don't know the lake but I can tell you that trolling cranks and pitching brush is producing lately. Trolling you need to target 12 to 20 feet of water(fow) and be patient. Works great once you find them. Good luck and keep checking in.

Welcome from MTCC and good luck up there. We hear it is a great lake and some of us fish JPP but Ol Hickory is closest to you.

Welcome to TN. I fish Chickamauga Lake because I live in Chattanooga. Sorry can't provide much info on the lakes in your area. However, if you ever want to fish Chickamauga you are welcome to go with me.
