    Default Normandy 4-14-2011

The wife and I went to Normandy today to do a little fishing, we mainly went for bass but tried a little crappie fishing also. We caught a few fish, quite a few bass but no keepers and one crappie that was a keeper 11 1/2 inches but let it go since that was the only keeper of the day. Got a late start or I think we would have done better, but no one one the lake that we talked to was doing much better. I used jigs with grubs and bobby garlands (no minnows) but most everything we caught was on crankbaits. Game and fish stopped and asked what we had caught guess they want to keep track of fish caught, she logged everything down. She also said they did some stocking today. The crappie I caught was a blacknose (see pic).

Nice one Randy. I really have better luck with slabs when I fish with minnows. Thats been the case in the past anyway. I may try to go Sat morning, depending on the weather. There is a spot I need to check out.

I found a few spots that I think will do real good if they are fished earlier than we got to them today. We didn't get to them till after noon and saw fish all around them on the fish finder just couldn't get them to hit. Saturday is suppose to be stormy but if not I may go also and maybe Sunday too.

Good fish Randy. The creel clerk you met was Emily, and she just keeps track of the catch. No relation to "Mr Green Jeans". She's real nice, and will tell you if and where they are being caught. I usually fish early and do pretty good with it, and leave early if it slows down and get some other stuff done. Keep after it, keep a marker handy, and let us know how you do. Tight lines.........

I figured thats who she was, and she did say where they are being caught but not when.

I have only fished up Normandy once since November and that was the February big fish tourney but I would sure try going up river to find some fish. Last year we had a monthly tourney there in April and most of the traditional places down at the main part of the lake did not pay off for anybody. My guess would be Emily would say go up river and fish fallen trees, or the shallow flats near the channel with cover. I have a wedding to attend next saturday and won't be able to make the Normandy tourney but that would be where I would start out. I'm sure there are still lots of fish to be caught that stayed in the two main creeks though if you ain't wanting to run up river.
