time well spent, great job slabsrus
keep the pictures coming, love to see them crappie
Well I only had a couple hours to slip out in the kayak this morning but it paid off. Went to try a new spot for the first time since ice out and managed to land a few decent specs. Nothing real big but nice eaters and found a new spot that looks like it will produce real well when I have more time. The crappie I caught this morning were in 4 feet of water all relating to wood structure. Any tree in the water where the end of the tree was over about four feet of water but the shore side of the tree was over shallow sandy bottom was the ticket. I hit several trees that looked good but if the were not partially over sand they just did not produce. Also included a pic of my jig box, pretty basic but does the job.

Unapplied biblical truth is like unapplied paint...how many gallons do you have sittin' around? U.D.
Nice to hear they have moved shallow around mid-michigan. I haven't been out around here since early last week. I plan to go on Wednesday and based on your report I will leave the deep water stuff at home.
nice job!
out of curiosity what kind of rod is that?
I broke the tip of a UL rod I had purchased from Walmart years ago and I cant remember the name. I have been trying to find it for quite some time as it had some of the best action I have had in a UL rod
that is a Quantam xtra lite im6, bassnbrian. pretty much strictly a quantam user. no real reason other than they really do me well. check out the bass bass section forum and you can see a pic of a pig largemouth I landed this morning on that very rod with 4lb Vicious Fishing flourocarbon while searching for specks.

speaking of ultralight rods which are fun for crappie, i bought a Browning superlight combo at BPS last spring which was alot of fun. I opted for the 6'6" instead of the 5' ultralight as it weighed only half an ounce more and felt a little better balanced. I landed a few 24" pike and a couple 3lb bass last summer on Tipsico Lake in Fenton with it and wow, no more medium action gear for me unless im fishing for eyes!
slabsrus

Slabsrus....
You really do good on catching those impoundment crappies, I wrote you this winter, I live down in Wyandotte Mi. fish the Detroit river, lakes Erie and St. Clair in the early spring when the fish are around the dock posts in the marinas.Use a 10' quantum Todd Huckabee dippin" rod ,caught alot of bass right along with the crappies..biggest so far this spring is a 13 3/4 "..the great lakes fish weigh more for their length than the inland lakes fish..caught several big ones at Sugar Springs 14 to 15 "..just don't like to tell too many people..I plan on being up that way next week... staying in Standish. fishing the Bay..if the wind blows I will head over towards secord or sugar springs...Bruce
