Jeff and I finished a roof on Thursday and decided to reward ourselves with a fishing trip on Friday. We took the advice of a wise (???) fellow CDC member and tried Basset Lake. We were not disappointed. We had the lake to ourselves and caught plenty of fish. Thanks OE.

We were on the water by 7:30 and as usual started out long lining 1/32 jigs and boot tail plastics. Basset has a steep drop off so we worked the weed edges on the drops. I scored first with two small 7" crappie which seemed to light Jeffs competitive fire, he landed a couple of nice fish that were pushing 11". After that it was fairly steady and fairly even action.

Most of the crappie we were catching were in the 10 1/2" range with a few bigger and a few smaller. We also caught a handful of small bass. After making three trips around the lake trolling we decided to anchor on the edge of a lily pad flat that dropped into 15 fow and try for some gills. We caught lots but only two went in the box, both just shy of 7 1/2". The next stop was on a weed flat with a gradual drop. We fished 10' down over 15 fow using slip bobbers, hali jigs and red worms. We managed 5 more keepers with the biggest pushing 9". We finished the day with 16 crappie and 7 gills, not bad for a lake we knew nothing about. Name: IMG_20200807_095410777.jpg
