The issue with Gander Mountain is that they were trying to become more of an "internet" sales store. They built bigger stores (like the one in Lansing) but stocked it with less items than the old store. The space looks huge, the shelving is spread out, but there is less stuff in it.
We went shortly after it opened. We didn't find what we were looking for but assumed it was because they had just opened. That was until I found out that they were 100% stocked! Not good news. We didn't purchase anything and saw no one with anything. Lines were empty. Tons of people, but nobody purchasing.
Went back on my birthday to purchase a decoy. Get to the store, no decoy. They said... we can order it. I said.. So can I! I told the lady... I shop here for the convenience of being able to get my purchase right this second. I pay extra money for you to have it in stock. If however I have to purchase it online, it sure as hell won't be from you! So asked me why. Simple I said. I expect the higher prices for in stock items. But, if I am going to shop online for something, I'm not going to pay that high price. Your business will lose every time because, simply put, your prices suck!!!! Again, I'll pay them for something I need to get today, but not something that I can get tomorrow.
We have been back a few other times and the story repeats itself. "We don't have that in stock but we can order it for you".
At Christmas I ran in to the same issue. To prove my point I stood at customer service. As the lady was looking up ordering the product, I said, I found it, and I just placed the order. I turned my phone around and showever her that I purchased it from another company for 30 dollars less than what they offered it for. See I said, you lose when you try and sell your products online at boxstore prices!
I wouldn't pee on that place if it was on fire!!!
