Default Spring crappie spot is hot, hot, hot

Been tied up with that dirty 4 letter word, work, for the past week and was afraid the ole hot spot had gone cold. Wrong! Made it back down to Barry County to fish a canal that, last week, produced a nice mess. This time we took along a flat bottom and a set of oars in case we had to go looking. I fished from the dock and my buddy went down the canal a bit. I had two 10" crappie in the bucket before he dropped anchor. We stayed for about 3 hours and ended with a 2 man limit of crappie with most being in the 10 to 11 range. Biggest was 12 1/2 and smallest was 9 1/2. Returned another 30 or more to the water. Shinner minnows 12" under a bobber and a 1/32 oz jig with a pink/ white tube under a bobber did all the damage. They wanted the jig "swimming" slowly so I was inching it along with a lift slowly, drop and reel, lift slowly, drop and reel, etc. No idea on water temp. If you have access to a canal connected to a crappie lake grab some minnows and a few jigs a get after them. It's starting to heat up!

Hope you can find a few that will bite. Gun has some good fish in it, just have to figure them out. A few years back I was gill fishing and thought I snagged on a weed. 10 minutes later we were netting a 30" channel cat. A few pics and back she went. Have a good time.

Nice report Spartan. You keep them coming like that. There's a special treat next month for good reports like yours. Keep an eye out for it.
