Yooper cooler:
I lived in the upper peninsula for 22 years and this one has stuck with me for a long time, used it often to this day.
Í stopped in to a place that sells barley pops and asked for a 12 pack to go, lady says don't you live a ways from here? How you gonna keep those pops cold? I had no answer....she said how about I make you up a Yooper cooler? And she promptly pulled out a garbage bag (new) put three heaping scoops of ice in the bag, my barley pops and I was on my way!
Easy cheap and it works for keeping anything cold when you don't have a conventional cooler.
Steve,
In my drinking days, we used to do this: Buy a case of beer and a bag of ice. Remove half the beer from the case and pour in half a bag of ice, the beers we removed would then go into the bag containing the other half of the ice! How well it worked is still a blur at this point in time~!
Come to think of it, I packed a bear home in a yooper cooler (from the UP no less). Wrapped the bear in a garbage back, laid him in the bottom of a giant tote, and emptied half the ice chest at the motel before I duct taped the lid closed. Worked like a champ. Rug is still hanging on the wall at my dad's place.

Rich, I used to have a big chest freezer I kept bear bait in, one hunter got his bear so we put it in the freezer since most of the bait was gone it was a good place to "freeze"a bear until the hunter was ready to go home. This one fella had a four wheeler in the bed of his truck when he was ready to go home and no place to put the bear, so.....we put the bear on the four wheeler, tied it's paws to the handlebars and off he went for home. I can only imagine the stares he got on his way home from people along the way.....a bear sitting upright on a quad in the back of a pickup going across US2 isn't a common sight!

Yooper cooler sounds like a handy and cheap idea. Have to give it a try.
For the boat plug, I attach it to the boats keyring with one of those ring clasps. Haven't forgotten about it yet and easy tot remove for use each time. Hard to forget about that giant plug taking up space in the pocket and digging into your though.

I've found that the easiest way to add oil to mowers, tillers, etc is with the $4.00 pump I bought for putting gear lube in the lower unit on my boat. Screw it on the bottle of motor oil, run a little through to clear the gear lube in the line and pump oil into your mower without spills. Also, for those with apple trees, an aluminum roof rake is the easiest way to rake up the drops out of the grass. It doesn't grab the grass like a garden rake and you can use the roof rake to scoop and dump the apples into buckets.
Jerry, I'm glad I read that. I never thought of that. That is a hell of an idea. I cannot count the number of times I used to collect apples as a kid and use them for deer bait (many years ago). We used to put a tarp around the tree and climb up and shake them off. It was always a bear to get them out of the grass. A roof rake. Who would have thought. Of course, now living in souther Michigan, I have little use for a roof rake!
