I do a lot of "pushing" or spider rigging as they call it down south. I have (4) BnM Black Widow 13' telescopic poles w/ mini bucks level wind reels. I have them spooled with 10# braid down to a small swivel with 10' of 4# spider wire. I have changed how I rig my terminal tackle a few times trying to decide what works best up here in the clear waters. Currently I have those set up with 1oz. egg sinkers wrapped in line 16" above a single jig/hook.

I also have (4) 12' pinnacle graphite poles strung with 6# vicious terminated in a Capps n Coleman rig using 3/4oz. egg sinkers. They both work for me at various times during the season, and then sometimes trolling isn't the method you want to use at all.

thanks yankee doodler trying to figure this spidder rigging thing out lol. the lakes i fish are mostly stained in color, holloway and mott. i've been useing 2- 9' crappie hunter rods with 4lb line and just a big split shot up a foot from the hook. and i catch fish on those rods but no bites on the 12' ones yet i think i might have to lite of weight on them. thanks for the info.

Get you 3-4 1/2 oz egg sinkers. Take one and put it on your main line then a bead then your swivel. Then you can use what ever leader of choice from swivel down. I usually run from 6 tp 12 in below weight.

ever heard the term controlled depth fishing? what i am referring to is on the set up. just like these or-20 snap weight made by off shore tackle the use of them is what were after. the fish suspend at a certain depth let say 15 foot down in 30 foot of water let say the average or suspended fish you see the most @15 foot down in 30 foot of water. how we solve this is buy running the egg sinkers back let say 75 foot from the board to snap weight and a 5 foot leader at speeds of 1.25-3 mph... to achieve this you need a few elements on the procession trolling big water edition two a line counter reels and three the correct bait weather half ounce or 3/4 ounce or 1 ounce you will find the distance back for the depth desired in the precision trolling book or app? here are a few link check speed with a good known gps reading if you not using trolling bag or drift socks get some even if you using the Minkota trolling motor get the minkota trolling bags. there maid for trolling motors will help stead y the speed out and slow down the boat to see link even with the or-20 snap weight they suggest using a line counter reel to help chive the correct dept

see links for some info on what i am talking about if you are pulling .5 ounce of weight to achieve the depth desired.
even off shore tackle has a 1/2 ounce weight

I use a double setup of a jig at the bottom and a single hook up above. The jig size/weight I use depends on depth and speed. I might use 1/16 in shallow watter and no wind and 3/4 oz for deeper.

I played with the top hook a lot. I started with a polymar knot but it didn't give me the ability to move the hook. I changed to a wrap style plastic slip bobber stop below the hook. I slide the hook on, shank up, then thread the stopper, then tie on the jig.

For drifting or long lining i use a single jig in verying weights to attain depth.
