    Default Lake Erie

    Greetings Gentleman,
Well I survived my trip to the inlaws in Georgia. I finally got to go fishing. Lake Erie is BIG! Walleye, Drum (sheephead), white bass, and got one nice catfish 28" - trolling. No crappie although they are out there. My wife hooked into something big it snapped her pole in half. She was reeling and I was holding the broken end of the pole when it snapped the line. Never did see what it was but it was big. I hooked the biggest walleye I've ever caught got it to the boat and my wife tells me I forgot the net. I tried to lift him in and he just danced away. But is was fun catching fish.
Hint about BIG sheephead. The big ones are usually pretty tough. I fillet them, smoke them like jerky and use them for dog treats. It a LOT cheaper than buying dog chews and much better for them.
My wife watches all the big boats being launched at the docks and tells me she doesn't like my Triton tiller. She wants a 21 ft Starcraft Islander. I priced a new one - 39,000.00!!!!!!!!! Obviously I'm looking for used LOWBUDGET. But the more she fishes in the small boat the more she wants a 21 footer:> SMILE

I heard they got some sort of monster out the in Erie. I think mama musta hooked 'em. Prolly good you didn't get it to the boat.

    Default Bessie

    Greetings Doodler,
The Lake Erie monster is called Bessie. There is a $100,000 reward for anyone who catches her. It's supposed to be a 30-40 foot long serpent with a head the size of a VW. They say she killed 3 people so far. Maybe we need a BIGGER BOAT!!!!! Ha!
Anybody out ther eat "white bass." We've been catching a lot lately. Sheephead too. I make jerky out of the sheephead for the dog chews. The dogs love em.

Yes My dad needs a bigger boat!

    grats on a great trip!

The wife and I love white bass!
We actually prefer them over walleye due to their firmer texture.
If you fry them be sure to cut out the darkest red meat on the back of the fillet.
If you bake them it is not as important to do so, but still helps.

I love them, eating and fishing for them. I have caught between 2000 - 2500 this year. I fillet and bag them in quart & gallon bags and sell them. Since I cannot find a job currently, I sell fish to pay some bills and survive. I have even started my own Fish & Game service called Washington Outdoors, I live 2 mins from the Detroit River and about 15 mins from Lake Erie. Check me out on facebook @ Fins, Furs & Feathers. Just trying to survive this so-called recession. hey mmaveal, if you want to hook up and go fishing, I like too also, you can't ever have too many fishing buddies, that goes for anyone on here, I am willing to go fishing just about anywhere and I'm always looking for new places to fish. I have not caught a crappie in over two years and I am sick about it, someone help me please!!!!!lol, send me a PM, thanks guys...

    Default white bass

    Greetings Fishnapper,
I'll keep you in mind to fish the Detroit river. I have a cousin that does the handlining for walleye. I've never tried that. He's going to take me out in the spring. We're tied up with our youngest sons wedding this fall so I'll have to wait till spring.
