I have the vault system and would not have any other....I have had the "grease your own often", the oil bath and the vault...the vault is not a system that "you grease often"....I do not worry about the vault unless I see a seal leak.....which I had the other day....it had been 8 months since I had them serviced so I was really surprised....turns out, I had picked up a long piece of monofilament line at the launch and it wrapped around and caused the seal to fail....circumstances Like I had can cause a seal leak on any system no matter how new it is.....I do not think most folks even know about the vault so their opinions are based only on systems they are aware of.....I purchased a completely packed hub for $35 that I carry as a spare for road emergencies....just pull the old one off and slide the new one on....no greasy hands....no sitting on the side of the road....carrying spare bearings is just as important as having a spare tire....

you were not wrong to say that.... tires may come with a 60,000 mile warranty, but we carry a spare.....and so it should be with bearings....I carry 2 bearing spares and one tire spare.....

Does anyone know the rpm of a wheel bearing at interstate speed????? They are spinning. I think Heritage is the only one using this hub system, doesn't mean that's what's on the broken trailer.
My local trailer manufacturer in Baton Rouge talked me in to the Vault several years back....he said they are not widely known about....and he has no problems with them....

I have the vortex and have lost one of the screw on caps before. I replaced it and no problems since. That being said, I will check them and lube them when I get home. Better safe than sorry. Some failures just can't be avoided. Nothing mechanical is invincible

Maybe do a research for a better grease to be used.
Must grease is made from lithium with petroleum oil added to it. Lithium is removed from animal fat and vegetable oils in the production of soap.
We launch our boats with warm/hot bearings. If a weak seal the oil is washed out and water takes it place. Lithium grease becomes hard with no oil in it.
Maybe start a new thread, "Best Grease", List your grease with a link so all will know what it's made of.
I think a petroleum grease with petroleum oil would be best.

On another website the owner of a west coast marine had problems with his rental reels. The rod/reel combos would come back after a day/week rental. They were placed in a bucket of fresh water to remove the salt. Within a month they were having to be cleaned, greased and oiled.
There was a research done, there were 2 brands of petroleum grease on the market at the time, he tried them both. Instead of monthly rebuilding reels he was about to go 6 months to a year. To bad the tread is some 15 years old and the new owner deleted it.
