    Default Motor-guide w45 shaft

I bought this trolling motor a couple of years ago. The shaft gets splinters of glass in your hand if you touch it anyone have any suggestions on what I could put on this to prevent this from happening since it has to slide thru the transmission block I was scared of painting it

I would contact MotorGuide. They should be able to tell you if it is a common problem and what to do about it.
If we did what was most important in life there would be a shortage of Bibles.................and fishing poles

Long time ago I had one, and if you sand it you will find it's just a temporary fix as the shaft will flex and bend in use, loading and unloading into the water, and will keep splintering. I finally gave mine away and just got a new one with a steel shaft. This is one of motor guide's better ideas of using a composite shaft over steel as it was probably cheaper to make in my opinion. Good luck.

I'm close to getting rid of it , I haven't been really impressed with the wireless capabilities either

I had one and had nothing but trouble with it as well. Transmission box went out - $165 to replace and then the wireless stopped working. If you keep it and the transmission goes out, I think I have one with less than an hour on it in the shop. May have the mounting plate as well.

If it dies I will probably use it for structure somewhere so I can smile every time I see it on the graph
