    Default Tilt trim problem

I washed my boat today and went inside when I came back out the motor was let all the way down... No totor on it so I let I up wondering why it was down came back a few minutes later and the motor was all the way down and the trim was running wide open and I hit all thre buttons before the one one the front stopped it but pushing it up.... Then when I would trim the motor down on any switch only way to stop it was to push the up trim.... Finally only the up trim works... When you push the down there is a little click you can hear and feel on the the inside of the back of the motor it is a little connection box bolted on the back. I took it loose and it looked fine. Anybody have any ideas. Thanks

You have water inside one of the switches arching the current.. Let it dry or pull them apart and blow them out with a compressor..

Well the clicking makes me wonder about the trim relays. But with it just starting to have problems after the bath, I’m betting on water intrusion. If it doesn’t dry out after a couple of days, might get a ohm meter on the relays. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to pull the negative cable off the starting battery until your ready to check it again. Just put a zip tie around all wires before you pull it. Sure as anything one will drop and you wont notice it.

I blowed some air with a compressor on them and nothing yet... was reading some stuff on it they seats if you switch the relays out they are the same so reversed it would trim down but not up.... Might try that tomorrow... I wonder if the water shortening it could have burned a relay out... Not much on mechanics or wires but nothing looked hot or burnt when I took them one clicking apart

The relays are under your motor cowling. So you wouldnt have water there, did you have the cowling off? Yeah that little box on the back of the motor is the relays, 2 side by side.
Check the switch at the shifter, not there at the bow. .rare for the switch on the side of the motor, unless the rubber is dry cracked.

I've got it going... I think. I switched the two relays and the motor worked both ways... Swithched them back and it work a couple of times then only would trim up. I read they both had to be plugged in to work either way and that one way grounded for down and one way completed a circuit for up or something like that. Long story short the relay I thought wasn't working was fine the other had a bent middle prong ( I think the ground) I took a wide mouth players after straightening and removing some shacivines and burts and push the relay and wire end together good. It seems to be fine now. I may buy a couple of extra relays though just in case. How much do these run and where is a place to order them online. Thanks for the help fellas!!! Another reason crappie.com is awesome

Any dealer that has your engine brand would ship if they are online. Not a clue as to what they would cost for your motor. Glad to hear all is well now.
