probably right.......I mounted over to side of transom away from any turbulence I have the bottom front even with bottom of hull and the back dropped just slightly.
I mounted a SI transducer and it seems to work fine except for while on plane there is a lot of water coming up in to the transom. There is sort of a "roster tail" coming up from the transducer.
I assume that I have it mounted to low below the hull causing the water to shot upwards.
Thx?

If it's causing a rooster tail it is too low

Did you put the little plastic/rubber plug thing in between the transom and the transducer? If not, water could be shooting between the transducer and mount, causing what you are describing.
What gtlegs said, the spacer helps but will not eliminate spray if your transducer is low.
A man remembered never dies.
Thats one of the reasons I bolt on a plate thick enough to screw transducers on. That way I can change transducers or move position easily.
A thick plastic cutting board works great, cut it to the size you want. There is a fine line for transducers to be mounted correctly too low and you get rooster tails, too high and you get no readings at high speed. You want it strait up and down and skiming the surface of the water.A board to mount your transducer on is great as you may have to move it several times to get it just right and you won't be drilling several holes in your boat.
