Default 2004 Johnson 50HP stalls at WOT

Hey all. I'm really hoping I can get some insight into what might be going on with my outboard. It was running fine up until last night. I have a suspission of what's going on but before I start tearing it apart I would love a sanity check here To start I will admit I let the fuel tank run dry. I have had this boat for a couple months and it has a 30 gal. tank. I wanted to know if the fuel guage was accurate or not before taking it on bigger lakes or the missouri river and finding out the hard way. The fuel guage read half when it died. I didn't mean to run it dry but it did. We launched and took off at wide open to warm the motor up before pulling the kids on a tube. About 30-45 seconds into the run it pullsed ten died. Pumped the primer bulb and it took 3 or 4 pumps to prime. Started on the first crank, took off and repeated the above. We did this 5 or 6 times until we made it back to dock. At that point I went and got 5 gal of gas and tried it again. Same condition. After filling the tank to capacity still same issue. I have checked the in line filter and I have no flow issues from the tank to the in line filter. Primer bulb seems to be functioning normal. My suspision is I got water in the line from running the tank dry, but wouldn't that affect idleing as well as WOT? It idles fine. Could the fuel pump have been damaged? What does everyone suggest? I plan on replaceing the priming bulb just to eliminate that from the start. Can running it dry damage the fuel pump diaphram?
Thanks for reading my short novel

Is it carbureted or fuel injected? If carbs can you get to the float bowls to drain them? Take a piece of clean hose that will fit bulb connector, on engine end slide hose on connector and blow back through bulb to see if check valve is seating. Could have gotten some trash in check valve. I don't recommend putting the end that has gas on it in your mouth thus the short piece of hose.

When I press the primer ball I could hear the check valve click in the bowls so I know they're not stuck.

That I'm not sure about but would that affect the wot stalls anyway? A buddy of mine suggested running the tank dry fould the plugs due to the oil injection system still pumping oil when the gas ran out. New plugs are in. Hope it was that easy

Problem Solved!! Bad Primer Ball. Wasn't checking the fuel back into the tank. I knew the ball was going when I bought the boat but didn't realize it could affect fuel flow when the motor was running. I figured the fuel pump had enough suction to keep the fuel flowing but apparently not. Anyway, $19.95 and it runs like new again.

It more than likely had some pinholes or cracks in it. Its a common problem with primer bulbs as they get old.
