    Default mercury optimax question

I just recently purchased a 2009 stratos with a mercury optimax 150hp motor..I took the boat out for the 1st time and while on plane the motor stalled. I had to wait around 2 min to get the motor to finally re start..I thought this maybe a fluke deal because my kill switch looked to be about halfway down..the 2nd time out the motor just died at idle out of a channel..sense I've had the motor stall 2 more times sense then..the motor has plenty of power and planes rite out..I have noticed a sputter from time to time at idle speed as well..I've checked my primer ball after the first stall and again the last time it stalled and the ball is full of fuel and not weak..also before I took it out for the 1st time I put in new plugs and checked the gap..one thing I've noticed is the motor seems to be smoking quite a bit..I've used roughly 3 gallons of oil to 40 gallons fuel..not sure if this seems like a lot or not? 2 friends have 2009 optimax 115hp motors and they don'tsmoke nearly as much as my 150..any one who has had this same issue or can steer me in the rite direction on a possible issue I'd greatly appreciate it

If it used 3 gallons of oil in 40 gallons of gas something is definitely wrong. It should have used less than a gallon of oil in that amount of gas. Those motors are very technical and I'd get it checked out by a Mercury mechanic. A blown power head on an Optimax could cost you a fortune.

You have throttle sensor problems. I had an Optimax 150 and it was a constant situation with those sensors. You will be full throttle and the motor will just cut off. The oil injection was replaced twice under warranty and once again at my expense. I like a Mercury but consider an Optimax a Hitler Missle.
