Good deal. He show you what the problem was? It's a hard find if you don't know where to look.
Matt fixed me up tonight. Just need a warm day to go try it out. Thanks a lot sliderman.

Care to share with all what the problem was?

There was a wire in the harness on the back of the motor that had a bare spot on it and was arcing out. Also a pinched a spot in the harness that runs under flywheel. Waiting on a decent day above freezing to put it in the water and run it.
It's part of the primary ignition system harness that goes from the stator assembly to the ignition pack. There is a spot where the wires can be pinched by their respective clamp. And as in this case, the wires are also not shielded well and subject to having their coating melted away in the event the motor has been overheated. Either case has the same outcome. A shorted or near severed ignition wire. That's why I asked earlier if the problem seemed to appear and disappear as the throttle was being twisted. That harness moves as you rotate the throttle handle. It's movement will either promote the 'short' or correct it.

Obviously mine is the non mechanic answer. Haha. Thanks slider. Much better said than I could.
