    Default An old man's rant

While fishing yesterday I noticed that the bulb for the fuel line was beginning to show a crack. i figured I would stop at the local boating store and buy a new one. $31.00 for a bulb alone. Line without the connectors was $63.00. I know things go up in price but really. Even Wally WORLD wanted 20 some dollars for a bulb, I think $43 for the line with connector which I don't need. Thank goodness for the internet, got the bulb for $12 and shipping was only a couple of bucks.

I hope you got one that is alcohol resistant so the ethanol gas will not eat it up.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

That's for sure G. I have quite a few people can't figure out what there problem is. I always get "well I just replaced the bulb and lines" statement. Come to find out they were cheaper or off the net. Most of the time they DO NOT LAST.
    Good luck sparkie.

AN original equipment fuel line is probably over a $100, but probably worth it. That gray fuel line on the atwood lines of the past and maybe the present is some of the most brittle junk I've ever seen when it's cold outside. Lots of the primer bulbs have faulty check valves in the cheaper hoses. Anything that has any quality is outrageously priced now. Even the junk is high.

Guys, we are still guys? You can buy 10' of good fuel line at any auto parts store for $2 a foot. A good bulb is still $30, I agree Atwood is garbage. Hose clamps are really cheap, even the good ones. $50 a pocket knife and a screwdriver and you have a 5yr fuel line.

we've had alcohol fuel here since the early 70's and any gas line you get around here has to be able to take the alcohol.

I understand the fuel has been a here for a while but the quality of the fuel line has changed or not changed to meet the harsh substance that goes thru the lines. I have the same issue in my carwash business if I buy a cheaper less quality high pressure hose the chemical that pass thru it eats the inside lining and then the wires rust and thus a blown hose! Just saying you get what you paid for why not pay for the best hose you can to save money on repair or be stranded at the wrong time.
As far as motors all makes of outboards are having issues with alcohol fuel that creates water in the tank then the motor has issues just have to keep all aspects of what your using and how to handle it to minimize problems.
