    Default trolling motor question

I am considering a Minnkota power drive v2 in a 45 lb thrust. I have a 1991 ranger 350v with a 150 Mariner. My question is for those of you that have them. Do you like it? Are you happy with the performance? How is it deployed and stowed because I don't see a string on it? Is it variable speed? Is the electric steer hard to adapt to? I've never had anything that fancy looking so I'm a little concerned about it. I'm old school and going to the new and leaving the old cable steer behind is a spooky aspect for me. So please fill me in asap because I plan to make a decision this weekend. Thanks superfly.

I have used power drive motors for several years and love them. I have not upgraded to the V2 model as of now. I have updated to the wireless wrist transmitter and it is great. Now I will tell you that it takes a little getting used to as it takes a few seconds for it to move from left to right and from forward to reverse mode as it will rotate 360 degrees. I would also suggest going with a bigger thrust motor than a 45 for that boat. But if you have been used to that size you should be okay as long as it is not real windy. The long cord on the foot control is nice to be able to control the motor from any part of the boat. The i-pilot feature is nice if you are trolling to keep on a set direction. I would check out Trolling motors.com for some videos. They will use less of your battery power than old models. I hope this helps you some in you decision whatever you pick. Good Luck .

Spend some more money and get a 24 volt 80 lb. MinnKota Terrova with I-Pilot....you will be glad you did.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

What they said. I have a 354v with a 70lb and wish I had more. It would make it even better to control in ALL conditions. Its better to have more power and not use it then have less and meed it imo

I have a 17'8" Bass Boat with a 150. Hull weight is 950 dry and undressed, so it's a bit to move in a wind. The 70 pdv2 riptide I have on it works very well, holding me in as stiff a wind as I care to fish in. What I don't care for is the deploy system used on the V2 compared to the Terrova. The Terrova is almost effortless, therefore safer when trying to get set up in a crunch situation. This boat had a 45 or 50lb motor when I got it and wouldn't hold in a good wind. 24V also lasts longer when on the motor all day. Probably doesn't fit the budget as well but the Terrova everyone has recommended will serve you well and I doubt you will be unhappy with it. The I-Pilot is an extra that can be added later to the Terrova, but the foot pedal use is lost when added to a V2.

I know I'll be in the minority here but I have the PD55 w/I-Pilot and the built in transducer running on a 1750 Crestliner and I love it. Is it a hard to deploy? - not at all. is it ornery to stow? - a little stubborn but if you keep it greased up with WD40 after each time used it's fine. The hand held control is great for me, don't miss the foot control whatsoever. The difference in price of a few hundred dollars for the Terrova is a lot of money for me when considering this is only fishing. I'd rather use the money somewhere else (like groceries)

I should have added that I jig deep water in the winter with a rod in each hand and need the foot pedal. Spider riggin and trolling the co-pilot and auto pilot really shines.

    Default trolling motor question

I have had both. Started with a 55lb powerdrive and upgraded to an 80lb Terrova on my 1860 F an F. The powerdrive did the job just fine on my boat but the Terrova is the ticket if you can afford it. I think you will be happy with either but like others have said go with the 80lb Terrova is you can and never look back. Good luck.
