    Question Mercury 20hp impeller replacement

I have an older mercury 80s 2 stroke. I'm preping it for this year.
I've removed the carb to rebuild. I need to get the lower unit to replace the impeller.
How do I go about removing the LU?
    Thanks Fin

I can't give you detailed instructions, might need to get a shop manual. Libraries usually have ones you can check out if you don't want to buy one. I can give you a heads up about a common mistake folks make when replacing the impeller and that is to make sure the pick up tube in the lower unit mates into the tube on the upper side when you reassemble it. Lot of folks pull the LU off and don't realize the water pickup tube was plugged into a mating part on the Upper unit and when the crank the motor, no water runs out the weep hole nor does it get to the motor to cool it.

look on utube, search for your 80's merc, may have to search for the exact yr or in a range. I was watching some last nite on the 03-05's Merc 40/50 hp, and they all seemed to be identical in methods/steps. Seems faily simple but I do believe the guy (D-Ray) had done a few in his time.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
