Default Looking for quick permanent fix for leaky rivets on aluminum boat

I have 6 or 7 rivets on my aluminum boat that are starting to leak. They aren't very bad. I filled the boat with water and after 30 minutes only one of them seemed leaky enough to actually cause a drip. The others just had water around them. Is there a good spray on sealant or anything like that that I can put on it to stop the leak? I'm looking to seal them up a bit better before I put a new coat of paint on it.

Get a buddy and a hammer. Have buddy hold big hammer on bottom of rivet, and then beat on top of rivet to snug it up.

Or, you could replace the leaky ones, since there's only a few.

New here, but can add; while boat is filled with water, have buddy hold large hammer against rivet on outside, use a long enough rod(3/4" or so in diameter) to place on rivet from inside and strike with hammer. This tightens rivet, and you see instant results as the water is still in the boat. Good luck and good fishing

The longer they're loose, the less likely they will be to be to re-seat.

here`s a cheap and easy way to fix your rivets....get you a gas soldering gun and a 2 liter plastic coke bottle...heat the rivet area a little...touch the plastic to it and its a done deal.....cheap and it sure works.....i havent had a riveted boat in yrs,but when i did this is how i fixed them...and yes i have a heliarc welder ,i could weld them but this is faster and it works...

When I had my old riveted jon boat I had 52 leaking rivets. I filled it with water then went down to the local boat store and they gave me this product that came in a stick that was like a harder sticky tack. Just pinch a bit off and roll it around in your hands for a while then stick it on the bottom of the boat like gum. It worked great for another year then I traded that boat for a welded jon. Im sorry i can remember the name of it but i do remember the stick was green and possibly grey.

    Good Luck!

Air chisel gun with a buck rivet driver. Hammer on one side, the gun on the bottom. About 3 seconds your done. Get a few extra 3/16 x 1/4. Don't never and I mean ever drill it out. Knock the inside rivet with a wood chisel or use a thin steel putty scrapper and drive it till you cut the rivet in half.

The stuff your talking about is JB weld stick.I had several holes in my boat and this and regular JB weld also sticks and seals the holes very well. Ive had some JB on my 12 ft. jon for many many years.

I went fishing yesterday and the JB stick came off. I was pissed. I am gonna buy some original JB today and patch it again. I 'don't know what happen with the JB stick, maybe I did'nt clean the aluminum good enough before applying the JB stick or something.Always just wire brushed and put original JB weld on with no problems.
