    Default Jack Plate Question

I recently spent quite a bit of time looking for a new (to me) fishing boat. Many of the boats had jack plates on them. A dealer indicated to me that a boat he had on his lot had come from out west at a higher sea level and the manual jack plate would need adjustment because of our lower altitude.

I have not been able to confirm or deny the validity of this statement.

Is adjusting for sea level altitude significant? I see why it is important for airplanes, but not able to figure this out on my own...

It is possible that I misunderstood him, but I don't think so. Any insight would be appreciated...thank you.

Altitude does affect fuel/air mix, usually associated with high elevation (Mountains) Jack plate adjustment is how deep in the water your prop is in the water. I see no connection between the two. Have this dealer adjust Jack Plate for our Missouri elevation and take her for a spin. If it doesn't perform, dealer is FOS!

Snake Oil! Jackplates have not correlation to the altitude you are running you boat at only how deep and setback you prop is.

He's feeding you a load-geography doesn't matter how high your prop needs to be.

Thank you all for the replies. Everything I found indicated altitude had no issue for the jack plate. I wonder if maybe he was talking about the fuel system needing adjustment for altitdude.

I agree with you guys and thanks for taking time to reply. gadget

Sounds like the dealer was testing the water to make a few bucks in the future. One experienced friend told a gullible newbie that his 2 stroke Suzuki motorcycle had bad "muffler bearings". The newbie was at the dealership the next morning, and I wish I could have seen the face of the tech when he stated his problem. Some folks will believe anything, and there's someone waiting to make money on it. Don't know if I would trust that tech you spoke with again.
