    Default Evenrude 9.9 problems

I have a little evenrude 9.9 for my 14 foot jon boat. When the motor is in gear to get it to run its full potential i have to pull the choke all the way out. if the choke is pushed in while im trying to run it get very sluggish and losses power. but to get it to idle the choke has to be pushed all the way in. When its in neutral it acts like it will run just fine with the choke pushed in but as soon as you put it in gear to go you gotta full choke it or its gutless. If anybody has any ideas what the problem might be or how to fix it i would appreciate it

Dollars to donuts it's a dirty carb. If your fuel lines aren't new, I'd replace them and rebuild the carb and I bet you'll find it runs much better.

Jets can be hard to clean. You can try spraying carb cleaner through and adding something like Quickleen or Seafoam to the tank and running it.

Yup, either dirt in the carb or pin holes in the pump diaphram.

There is someting in the high speed jet, and using the choke cuts down on the air flow into the carb throat to match the restricted amount of gas going into the carb. Spraying carb cleaner in the carb will do nothing but cause internall damage to your engine because carb cleaner washes the oil from the cylinder walls. Need to remove the carb, and clean, rebuild the carb, that is the only fix. adding someting to the gas may help in a couple of weeks, maybe months but if the fish are bitting, have or rebuild the carb your self, don't waste your time or money.
