    Default Gas gauge off

Well i found out the hard way the my gas gauge is off by over 1/4 tank. Is there anyway to adjust the gauge? The gauge is on the dash and the tank is built into/under the floor of the boat. thanks for any advice.

I've never seen a gauge that was adjustable. The adjustments are normally made at the sensor in the tank.

You need to bend the arm on the float up a little

could you please explain how adjustments would are made at the sensor or is it something that needs to be done by a mechanic?

It depends on what sensor the dealer installed. Some of them have a screw you can loosen to adjust the float, others you can adjust by bending the arm the float is on. BTW, this float is inside the tank but there should be an access cover to it.

If it is the slip type then something might be stopping it from slidding down, its either a cork or fuel proof foam plastic that has a magnetic ring on the bottom to read the OHMs to the guage , Or it might be that they put on the wrong OHM guage for the sender , the OHMs for the sender should be listed on the top of the plate on the sending unit then the guage will have ohm range on it,,OR they put in a sender that is too short for that tank, it should almost touch the bottom of the tank..
I hope you have easy access ot the tank with the covers..

There are several different types and like garyv said the sending unit and the gauge must match ohm wise. Here are some of the different types. Boat Fuel Sending Units - iboats.com

I'd just install a new sending unit. They can be had for about $25.00 and come with instruction to calibrate it to your tank. To mess with your's, guessing the changes needed, will require you to remove and replace the sending unit. Possibly multiple times. New units come with gaskets, and new screws with sealant on them. Not worth chancing a gas leak messing with the old sending unit.

I would also advise to fill the tank 1/2 full to make sure you have everything adjusted correctly.
