My Tracker is 17' 10" and i'm using a 30". As luvjign said, with much wind, bigger is better. So far if the wind gets up to much, I just look for water with cover from the wind, lots of cliffs to block wind on Percy Priest.

A 5 gallon pail or two with some holes drilled in the bottom will also work to slow the drift. If you want it on top, silicone a few blocks of styrofoam inside in a straight line from top to bottom....keeps it from hanging up on trees and brush. The holes make it easier to pick up when leaving the area.

I've got one for my 17' Lowe aluminum boat. Mostly it gets in the way, because I fish in a lot of visible cover. I've found that I spend more time fideling with the thing than its worth - but then I can get lines tangle in a tree when there aren't any trees around!!

I use a 54" sock with my 18' polarcraft works great. Been thinking of getting a smaller one so i can use two in tandem on those really windy days.

How far out from the boat do you drag them?

I have a float on the rope just ahead of my sock, doubt it's more that 6' behind the boat. Use it on open water on channel where there's little brush or the brush is to far down to effect it. At fist I didn't have a float on the rope so it used to submerge quite a bit, but not now. Seems to stay in top 3' of water. Only had it snag one time, might be different on another lake.
