Wow...still alive after 6 miles of no water?
Tough fish
He's now my new pet. I carried him home (about 6 miles) in a little minnow bucket with no water in it at all, expecting him to go directly to the freezer. he is scheduled to meet the taxidermist real soon, but he had different plans. I have a big tote outside that i filled with water to put fish in ready to clean. I dumped him and a mess of catfish into the tub while I got the cleaning table and knives ready. I cleaned some eater cats, and was draining the water in the bucket to get him in the freezer. he was very much alive and not happy.
So me being the idiot that I am: re-filled the tote to see if he'd survive.
Well the stupid thing now has a bigger tank and fresh water with a pump system to keep him all happy. So; I have a pet crappie that for now is a guinea pig for my new minnow tank system.
his name is "FRED".............:o

My Wife Fillets The Fish! I am a fortunate man.
Those darn crappie are tough. I've had 'em live after 20+ miles of no water many times.
I have kept em that big up to about a month, then they usually die. If you plan to mount him, I would either
1. get good pics and measurements for a replica.
2 go on and freeze her.
She won't be fitting to do a skin mount after she dies.
Oh yeah BTW NICE FISH!!!!
