4lb mono

Hey friends,
For crappie I really like 4lb hi vis mono. I have mostly used Mr Crappie. To minimize line management problems I soak it for a week in water which helps eliminate line memory in the short term but after the line dries out the coils come back. Wondering which brand is best that minimizes line management problems. I hear Vicious is better than Mr Crappie. But also wonder about Stren and Bass Pro Shop 4lb hi vis. Any thoughts??

I bought a large roll of Mr Crappie and could never get the coils out. I use Stren Gold (2 #) and Vicious. I stretch the Vicious every time I go out. A large bass lure pitched as far as I can and reeled back through my fingers does the trick.

I do it a bit different, which also removes twists.

I tie the tag end off & walk off a cast & a half's distance. Close the bail & pull the line taught (with rod tip pointing at tag tie-off point) and hold it for 15secs ... then let off ... and repeat the pull & hold two more times. Then I lay the rod down & go and cut the line at the tie-off, go back to the rod & reel the line back in under tension of finger/thumb in front of the reel, dragging the loose line thru the grass.

The finger tension insures the line is wound snuggly around the spool & the dragging thru the grass unwinds any twists.

Just a FYI. I'm pretty sure Mr. Crappie and Bass Pro line is made in the same factory. I use Sufix tangerine orange 4lb line.

I have zero issues with line. If one is stretching line, soaking it in water, to keep it manageable, then you need to go to another line. I used to really dislike nylon lines until I started buying Japanese lines. Now the only nylon line I use is Varivas Twitch Master. I use it in 3, 4, 5, and 6# test. I just re-spooled a reel with some 4# test as I’m going next week to chase some trout on the White River. I took off the old line only because it had been on there for two years. Still as limp as the day I put it on and it had caught about 500 hundred trout. Varivas is a site sponsor and their lines are as good as they come.

I have made the switch to 4# NANO line. It's kinda pricey but I like the zero stretch. Also crappie hook themselves while I am slow retrieving my lure.

I agree that Varivas is one awesome premium line. I also use Slime line Champions edition with little issues. If I have too many issues I just re-spool.

some day I might spring for good line , but I just give my mono a stretch and then ketch and or ketch one to stretch it when I am in full auto mode ....
some of the 4 lb cheap stuff is fairly low on memory , not sure what brand it was I had on one reel , but it was the cheap stuff and it ran really well for a long time with about zero memory ....problem with me is spools of mono everywhere and never pay much attention to what gets spooled up ....it aint gunna be on my reel long enough to be a big issue anyway
some lines are worse than others , but the way I run thru line , about to spool a week or so, on my shallow reels , I could not afford to use good line , less I got me a second job ....

Thanks . I think I'll give Vicious a try with your bass lure suggestion
