You fellas know something once I became a member of this group and once I started watching YouTube I found myself as a bit of a hypocrite. Years ago my brother use to watch Bill Dance and that crew of Bass Fishermen religiously. We would go bass fishing and I tell you his tackle boxes look like my wife’s luggage. I am telling you a 14’ Jon boat was loaded when he went with me. Till this day I still have about 5 to maybe 10 bass fishing lures and can out catch most on any given day. Won a few local tournaments back in the day.
Laid all that down but a little creek bass fishing with my son these days still catching with those same five or 10 baits.
But, up until I joined this group and the YouTube thing a few years back I have now been totally focused on crappie since 2000. The truth is simply this. Up until about 5 years ago I only fished with minnows in various ways. I caught a lot of fish using nothing but minnows. My tackle only consisted of hooks, corks, sinkers and line and a couple of different style long poles.
But after joining this form and the YouTube thing, I went to using jigs plastics and hair jigs. With that I now look like my brother back in the day. I not only have the jigs of all colors, shapes and sizes, but slab sauce, crappie nibbles, and a number of other attractants. I am embarrassed of the size tackle boxes I have. I also have 6 or 7 rods to do various types of crappie fishing.
When use to using the minnows either under a cork or, tight lining, trolling, or drop shot method. Caught about the same amount of fish with a lot less tackle. So for me, I will leave the wife alone about bringing the kitchen sink. She doesn’t fish so she has no idea what I carry fishing nor does she care. She just knows I am cranky these days when I don’t catch fish. So rather than her be cranky bring whatever she wants long as what we travel in doesn’t have to go through the weight station. And the cost to pay for it if traveling by flight. Well just as long as she doesn’t say anything about my tackle and fishing trip bills. Gas is expensive! To each his or her own and enjoy life.
